Transformer Explodes at MA Power Substation

Aug. 9, 2022
Lexington firefighters battled the heat as well as the flames, and remained on the scene for hours.

Officials are still trying to determine the cause of a transformer explosion at a power station in Lexington.

Firefighters told WCVB that one possibility could be the demand for electricity due to the hot temperatures.

Crews sprayed water on the 16-foot transformer for more than an hour Monday night.

There were no injuries and no one in the area lost power.

One witness told reporters: "We started to hear scratching and little clicking noises. We looked over and see this giant explosion."

Firefighters rotated crews as they battled the heat as well as the flames.
